Black lives matter

#BlackLivesMatter was founded in 2013 in response to the acquittal of Trayvon Martin’s murderer. Black Lives Matter Foundation, Inc is a global organization in the US, UK, and Canada, whose mission is to eradicate white supremacy and build local power to intervene in violence inflicted on Black communities by the state and vigilantes. By combating and countering acts of violence, creating space for Black imagination and innovation, and centering Black joy, we are winning immediate improvements in our lives.

Beyond Black Boxes is a fund created to benefit Black creatives who identify as women, femmes, trans and non-binary people in Portland, OR.

We are a collective of socially conscious and culturally competent trauma-informed BIPOC Femmes (with the exception of our volunteer accounting team, Asset to the Resistance). Our mission is to serve the BIPOC community with absolute transparency and effectiveness with an overall commitment to equitable practices.

Creator, Masimbaashe “Cookie” Zvovushe (pictured) is a local Portland mastermind of this project, along with so many others.

Our work is led by the narratives, leadership and voices of our community members who exist at the nexus of state sanctioned violence; sex workers, poor people, homelessness and folk experiencing housing insecurity, folks deeply entrenched in complex, seemingly inescapable traumatic environments. Through healing and restorative justice, are building a network of trans, non-binary Black and people of color who are artists, healers, entrepreneurs and creators sharing and cultivating sustainable projects for us and by us.

oregon da for the people

The district attorney is the most powerful position in the criminal legal system, significantly and disproportionately harming black and brown people’s lives. The campaign aims to decrease the everyday impact that the criminal legal system has on communities of color, while building community power to self-determine what safety and healing look like.

We, the voters, demand that the District Attorney hold police officers accountable, commit to ending mass incarceration, and decline to prosecute charges that criminalize us and don't keep us safe. For more on what we stand for, read our People's Platform.

Join the mass movement to build safety and justice that doesn't rely on police or prisons.
